Should I purchase a binocular or a telescope? ?

09 Jun

I have average knowledge of astronomy, mainly from magazines and planetarium software.
Are binoculars going to be helpful in long run or will I run out of fun in a few months.
Presently I do not want to look very deep into the space, for I have internet. I just want to have amazing views and detailed images of planets.
Did your binocular disappoint you or the telescopes just have too much fun associated?
Is there a binocular by which I can watch sky as well field birds. I can compromise on the latter one though

Thanks and regards

Is this the making of a good book?

09 Jun

Prologue

Beep-d-beep-d-beep-D-BEEP-D-BEEP “SHUT-UP!” Yelled Victor Fedoseev as he pick up the alarm clock and hurled it against the wall.

Victor Fedoseev was Ivan Fedoseev’s son. Victor and his father made a living selling any weapon they could get there hands on to the highest bidder. Victor had a meeting with his father and a buyer today, but Victor didn’t realize that the meeting was in a half-an-hour. He quickly got up out of bed and jumped in the shower. When he got out of the shower and changed into some clothes, he had only 20 minutes till the meeting started. He was about to call his father and tell him he was going to be late, but decided against it because the NSA and the CIA probably had his phone tapped.

He grabbed his keys and headed out the door. Once, in his car, he put the keys into the ignition and turned them to find. Beep-Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!!!!!!! KAAABOOOOOOMMM!!!!! The car exploded and incinerated Victor Fedoseev.

Watching through binoculars from half-a-mile away was LJ Owens. He could slightly hear the explosion, but he could definitely see it through his high-powered binoculars. “Would you like the bill, sir?” asked the waitress. “Yes, I would. Thank you.” responded LJ. The waitress came back with the bill, and LJ paid and thanked her again, then got up to leave.
Hey tell me what you think.(Honestly) Some constructive criticism would be nice.
(Remember this is only the Prologue)

Have FUN.Be SAFE
Ya this is not a Romantic or Mystery. It’s more of a spy novel and suspense. And this is only the Prologue.

Are My Binoculars Defective?

09 Jun

Got Zeiss Conquest 12×45 hunting binoculars off ebay. The binos look new, but the image in the left tube is way too fuzzy, out of focus. Just like if I was wearing reading glasses with huge diopter. The right one is fine. Neither focus, nor diopter adjustment do improve image in the left tube. The image looks same for both eyes (if I look with one eye at a time). So when I look through both tubes and align them together, I still can see distant objects but I have discomfort, clearly because of out-of focus or whatever in left tube. Called Zeiss, left a message but no reply. What can be wrong? Is there any way to fix this? Thank you

is this a good hypothesis??? HELP?

09 Jun

Im in 7th grade and my science fair project is due tomorrow! My problem is can you make a free throw with one eye open!!! IS THIS GOOD HELP WHAT DO I CHANGE?

After researching my topic closely I predict that I will make more shots with two eyes because binocular vision is easy to see and determine depth perception. Binocular vision is seeing with both eyes. I think I will make more shots with just my left eye then just my right because my dominant hand is my left. Monocular vision will affect my shots because monocular vision causes shadows, overlay, motion, object size, and highlights. Monocular vision is seeing with one eye. I researched that when you shoot a basket with one eye 65% of the time you will miss the rim.

when is the best time to watch for this owl?

08 Jun

there is an owl in our local woods. I am not sure which species, as I have only heard it a few times. I have heard it around 3 am. When is it best to go and listen and watch for the owl? Is it better to stay up and go out late, or to get up about 4 am and spend the early morning?
Obviously, I have my reservations about being seen hanging around on the edge of the street (which is where the woods begins) with a pairof binoculars in the wee small hours.

How to fix double picture in binoculars?

08 Jun

I have 12×50 Wide-Angle Orion WorldView Binoculars. they focus fine but the picture is doubled. it looks fine if you close one eye or the other. is there a way to fix that?

thanks a bunch.
the hinge is there to accommodate people with different distance between eyes, it doesn’t make an impact on this problem. every one who looked through them described same issue. no matter how narrow or wide hinge was extended.

T-Rex Hunter or Scavenger?

08 Jun

There has been a lot of debate recently on the T-Rex, was it a hunter or was it a scavenger. Dr Jack Horner says it was 100% scavenger, which I think is ridiculous for the following reasons.

Do puny arms indicate an inability to hunt? Not a chance, if you look at T-Rex’s jaws they are designed to deliver a massive killing bite. I believe it would deliver a fatal first strike, back off and wait for its victim to die from blood loss before moving in. Having large arms and grappling with prey as large or larger than itself would not make sense, the chance of injury would be too great. T-Rex may not have been as fast as some people think but certainly it was as fast or faster than most of the animals it hunted. It has sharp binocular vision, which was probably used for stalking its prey after using its large olfactory senses to find potential prey from far off.
I do believe T-rex did both; if fresh game was scarce I believe a T-Rex would not hesitate to run smaller predators off a kill. But to make the claim that T-Rex was nothing more than a scavenger is way off base.
It has been suggested that different age T-Rex’s in a pack served different roles, the younger animals herding the prey animals to the adults to make the kill. Interesting theory. You say that if T-rex fell while running it would damage itself, true enough but if it was running at speeds of 18-20 miles an hour it’s legs would not be moving that fast I think it would be comparable to a fast walk for us.
